The actor also confirmed in the interview that the entire cast would be returning for the follow-up season, which means more Lady Loki, more alligators drinking wine from a kids' pool (presumably), and definitely more Casey. "I think it was just an accident of scheduling, but I'm thrilled about it," Hiddleston said on Jimmy Kimmel Live. Season two filmed in London, which was handy for the title star. Obviously, Tom Hiddleston is on board, because after all what is Loki without, you know, Loki? The limited animation, lack of action, and lack of a satisfactory payoff makes this a dull morality play.In typical Marvel style, it's keeping plans for Loki season two pretty close to its chest. ![]() Thor fans will undoubtedly want to see this production because it adds some interesting layers to Loki's personality and his relationship with Thor, but I can't recommend it for anyone else. We don't see what happens to several principal characters or the fallout of Loki's villainy. Completely unsurprising spoiler–Thor escapes and wreaks retribution on Loki. It would flow better as an uninterrupted movie. Each episode is about 20 minutes of story, so I'm not sure why the producers opted to break it into four parts. However, the limited animation detracts from the overall effect with its jerky movements and static compositions. The superb backgrounds fill the screen with beauty. The Asgard warriors are musclebound and the females are full-figured, to say the least. Loki is portrayed as an old man with missing teeth and lined face. There is a real sense of dimensionality, and the character designs are quite detailed. The artwork is the best part of the production. As such, it is aimed at adults more interested in political machinations than teenagers more interested in action. All of this comes off as a cheap Shakespearian tragedy, with Loki brooding and plotting but not really doing anything. He must mediate in what seems like every petty squabble in the land, and his allies in the rebellion begin to demand payment on his promises used to secure their cooperation. Loki soon learns that ruling an empire is not all it's cracked up to be. ![]() The story opens as Loki is celebrating his takeover of Asgard, with Thor, Odin (Joe Teiger), Sif (Elizabeth Diennet), and Baldar (James Hampshire) in chains. It is essentially a character study of Loki (David Blair) Thor (Daniel Thorn) spends the vast majority of the running time as a mute prisoner, with only a few brief flashbacks. Thor & Loki: Blood Brothers is a four episode motion comic from Marvel Knights Animation that is based on the 2004 miniseries Loki. It is truly a thing of beauty, a joy for ever. The creators of this animation are to be commended, as they have tried to make a cartoon for adults only (no, not THAT kind) and succeeded. Just as "Watchmen" was the first graphic novel, this may very well be the first cartoon theatre play, the topic being as meta as the two-dimensionality of comic characters. Beware, this is not your every day cartoon. runtime, a bit more than 50 if you don't count repeating intros and outros, the animation style is reminiscent of a web comic, yet superior as character sketches are subtly animated and mixed with CGI to create the feeling of medieval cut-outs. As in the comic, the visual rendition is lush, even stunning and the language is beautifully medieval. This is not superhero "Hulk smash" material, but a powerful character study of a villain. ![]() I loved the comic mini series by Rodi and Ribic that came out some years ago and I love the visual take Marvel Knights have created based on it. ![]()

Not only are there these mega-layered textures, but parts of the city have tiled versions of the texture within the 4096 texture sheets but as separate textures. This was quite a slog to get everything not only looking right but looking the same. The reason for this is because the city runs on 4096 textures, to improve performance and use less draw-calls. The Specular & Gloss texture is that but x 2 so 520-ish layers for that one. The Albedo (Colour) map is 259 layers by itself. ![]() I had to do a specular & gloss map for the city textures. The current nullius is 12km x 12km, I am going to keep this size for week 3, and add back in some of the classic Hurtworld biomes as smaller chunks among larger wasteland. I did however end up pushing our tech a bit further with support for very large maps. As there weren’t really much reason to move between cities, these didn’t serve much purpose. ![]() Something new I tried with the current map is adding more negative space to the playable area by adding very large wasteland type areas around focal points that require vehicles to traverse. Our aim is to start tweaking the balance of full loot so that its not so punishing as you progress further into the game. We will be introducing some new blueprint mechanics, doing some more work on our procedural map workflow to hopefully make the map much more interesting (and big, and improve performance). This Friday we are heading back to the land of survival. We’ve been collecting performance data from people on the city build, and as expected we have a lot of optimization to do there. We will put out a patch tomorrow that will add some point to playing on the experimental servers this week. Half of the features didn’t make it in which we have been working on over the last few days. With bug fixes from the first release we only had a couple of days for the new build. ![]() ![]() This post is part of my journey into the geology of mountains. Plastic is deformation of materials without fracturing. It seems that ductile deformation is a description of what happens to rocks whereas viscosity comes in where numerical modelling of rock flow is required. Viscosity is a measure of the resistance of a fluid to stress whereas plasticity and ductility relate to changing the shape of solids. It’s not clear to me which is correct, if any. ![]() * Note on terminology Viscous/ductile/plastic are terms that seem in practice to be used synonymously as being things different from elastic behaviour. The question of which rocks behave in which ways, and how this is relevant to the geology of mountains is a matter for another post. In summary, rocks can behave in an elastic manner, but also in a ductile/viscous way. The terms ductile and viscous are often used as synonyms*. This type of deformation in rocks is referred to as ductile. Individual grains remain whole so conceptually the rock has flowed like a liquid. In time, the mineral lattice becomes a different shape, and writ large, the rock has been deformed. These are where atoms in the lattice shift one by one (helped by little imperfections). A crystal lattice can deform by crystal plastic mechanisms know as creep (diffusion or dislocation). Luckily geology has lots of time available. How to explain viscous behaviour in rocks? Just like jelly, if you heat rocks, or add water they are more likely to flow like a liquid, only very very slowly. Remove the force and the bonds return to their original size. Apply a force to them and you can increase the gap between the bonds. The atoms within these crystals are joined together by atomic bonds. How does this apply to rocks? Rocks are (usually) made of crystals which are formed by mineral lattices. Small Deborah numbers define viscous materials that easily flow high. It’s takes a while, but if definitely flows viscously. Here’s a nice round piece of silly putty, perched on a slab of Himalayan granite. The viscous side of things is best expressed in photos. Matt Kutcha persisted and got some great video. I tried hitting it with a hammer a word of advice – don’t. It is a material with complicated properties, but for our purposes it shows how a material can have both elastic and viscous rheological properties.įirst the elastic behaviours: silly putty is very bouncy. It will fracture too, but this is harder to do. This hybrid behaviour is know as visco-elastic. In practice a material can exhibit type of behaviour, under different conditions or different rates of deformation. So, we have two broad ways in which materials can deform, elastically or viscously. Don’t just think of water, which has low viscosity, think of high viscosity liquids like tar or honey or felsic magma. Materials that behave in this way exhibit viscous behaviour. It doesn’t fracture but flows, like a liquid. ![]() Apply enough force to rock and it will fracture – if they are big we call these fractures faults.īut what happens if you leave jelly out in the sun, or make it with too much water? It starts to collapse under its own weight. Earthquake waves can be thought of as little wibble-wobbles moving through elastic rock. Apply a large enough force and it will fracture. If you apply a larger force it will permanently change its shape. If you apply a force to the material, it changes shape but returns to its original shape when the force is removed. The properties I’ve described are those associated with elastic materials. Notice that the pieces break off with a clean sharp edge. Once you get tired of poking, stick a spoon in it and eat some. It may then take a while to settle back to exactly where it started (wibble wobble). If you put a big pile of jelly (not jam, jelly) on a plate and push it, it moves (wibble) and then moves back (wobble). So let’s start with jelly (or “jello” as most of you know it). The trouble with rocks is we don’t have much direct experience of deforming them. A understanding of a rock’s rheological properties tells us how it behaves when a force is applied to it. ![]() Flow is typically measured using shear and the shear parameters of stress () and strain rate () are calculated from measurements of torque and flow rate. It is normally applied to fluid materials (or materials that exhibit a time-dependent response to stress). Rheology is the study of the flow of matter. Rheology is defined as the study of flow behavior. I have a tendency to throw phrases around, so I want to define some of them properly. Also I’ve bought a new toy I’d like to play with. To understand the geology of mountains, you need to know how they are built, which means you need to know how rocks deform. “Wibble wobble, wibble wobble, jelly on a plate” Childrens’ rhyme. ![]() ![]() Twitch has 9.2 million active streamers, which means that you will have to be creative in.
